MOULD MAKING & SLIP-CASTING COURSE

Join us to learn the process of plaster mould making and slip casting with porcelain.

This course will focus on the technical aspects of mould making and slip-casting: techniques widely used in studio pottery, sculpture, and ceramic industry. You will learn to make your own one-part and multi-part plaster moulds and master various slip-casting techniques. All materials included.


This course runs twice a year, with the next one scheduled for autumn 2024.

DETAILS:

  • 3 week course
  • Class duration 3.5 hours
  • Once a week (Sunday)
  • Small group: max. 8 per session
  • Learn: single and multi-part mould making & slip-casting techniques
  • Produce: 2 plaster molds and 3-5 porcelain fired and glazed pieces.

MATERIALS:


  • Plaster
  • Models & props
  • Porcelain
  • Colourful porcelain (15+ colours)

We will dry, glaze and fire your pieces, so they will be fully functional, and can even go to a dishwasher. 

PROGRAMME:

01
Single-part molds
  • Introduction on how moulds work & how to measure and mix plaster.
  • Making a one part plaster mould from an object that will be supplied (cups & bowls).
  • Making one-part mould.
02
Multi-part molds
  • Theory about multi-part moulds & undercuts.
  • Creating a two-part mold from objects supplied (fruit &veg).

Slip-casting 
  • Learning about slip casting: porcelain slip, how to prepare and mix porcelain.
  • Learn how to colour porcelain.
  • Demo of standard & arty casting techniques.
  • Casting 3-4 pieces from the moulds made by you in previous lessons and provided molds.
